Important patient information – Mounjaro (tirzepatide)

From 23 June 2025, Mounjaro (tirzepatide), a new weight loss medication, will be available to some patients through GP practices. This medication is part of a carefully managed NHS rollout and is not available to everyone.

Key information for patients

  • Strict eligibility criteria applies. The NHS has set clear guidelines on who can be prescribed Mounjaro, based on medical need and national policy.
  • Your GP practice will contact you directly if you meet the criteria and are eligible for this treatment.
  • If you do not hear from your GP practice, it means you do not meet the eligibility criteria.

Eligibility criteria

To get Mounjaro, you must:

  • Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 or more, and
  • Have at least four of the following health problems:
    • High blood pressure
    • High cholesterol or fat levels in your blood
    • Sleep apnoea (trouble breathing while sleeping)
    • Heart disease
    • Type 2 diabetes
